Redefining Greatness: Embracing God's Dictionary

Do you ever feel like you’re living according to the world’s definitions, only to find that they’re not aligning with your heart’s deepest desires? Perhaps you’ve been striving for greatness, love, or humility, only to realize that your understanding of these virtues is vastly different from God’s.

As believers, we’re called to live according to God’s dictionary, not man’s. Jesus is the embodiment of this truth, revealing to us that greatness is not about power or prestige, but about servanthood and humility. He demonstrated this by flogging the merchandisers at God’s house, showing us that true humility is not about self-effacement, but about standing up for what is right.

Imagine being loved by Jesus, yet being told the hard truth that your riches will ultimately lead to hell if you don’t surrender them to follow Him. This is the paradox of God’s love and truth as displayed to the rich man in Mark 10:17-27. He loves us enough to tell us the hard truths, and He’s willing to take us through the refining fire to purify our hearts and motives.

So, have you procured God’s dictionary? Are you learning from Jesus and being moulded by His teachings?

The Bible says, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls” (Matthew 11:28-30).

It’s time to redefine greatness, love, and humility according to God’s dictionary. Let’s lay down our old selves, with their corrupt and deceitful lusts, and put on the new man, created in righteousness and true holiness (Ephesians 4:20-24).
